Medicare to Hold Payments for Nine Days in September

September 8, 2006  –  Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is required to hold payments for all Medicare claims during the last nine days of September. If deemed eligible for payment, these claims will be reimbursed on October 2, 2006 without penalty.

According to the CMS Newsletter, MLN Matters, "no payments on claims will be made from September 22-30, 2006. Providers need to be aware of these payment delays, which are mandated by section 5203 of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2006." CMS will not be required to pay interest or late fees for any delay in payment as a result of the one-time hold.

South Oakland Services will continue to submit claims as usual during the hold period. However, any reimbursement that would have been expected during the nine days will now be posted after the 1st of October.

This policy (CR5047) applies only to claims subject to payment. Full denials, no-pay claims and other non-claim payments will not be affected. Payments will not be staggered and no advance payments will be allowed during the nine-day hold.
