HAP Releases Revised Anesthesia Reimbursement Policy September 23, 2004 – Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has released a letter explaining its new anesthesia reimbursement policy and outlining which components of the new policy will go into effect next month. According to the letter, data analysis uncovered some billing irregularities and questionable billing practices. As a result, HAP will be performing detailed claim and chart audits in instances where they were unable to confirm budget neutrality due to problems with billing practices. It will determine implementation of the payment schedule portion of the new policy on a case-by-case basis. The HMO will implement the coding rules provided in the new plan on October 1, 2004.
