BCBSM To Correct Problem with Fluoroscopy Rejections

November 11, 2003 - Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) will fix the problem with its insurance code editing program, which has been rejecting fluoroscopy, a common procedure performed with pain management injections.

BCBSM employed a new code editing system from McKesson earlier this year. A flaw in the new system is blamed for inappropriate rejections. In a meeting with the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists, BCBSM representatives agreed that fluoroscopy is a legitimate service and should be reimbursed. They plan to fix the problem.

Code #76005

Fluoroscopic guidance and localization of needle or catheter tip for spine or paraspinous diagnostic or therapeutic injection procedures (epidural, transforaminal epidural, subarachnoid, paravertebral facet joint, paravertebral facet joint nerve or sacroiliac joint), including neurolytic agent destruction (May be used in conjunction with codes 64470-64476 for paravertebral facet joint injection, or 64479-64484 for transforaminal epidural needle placement and injection)
